IB PILATES® CERTIFICATION 

PHASE I

Phase I (3 Modules)

Assessment/Fundamentals, Mat & Reformer

Prerequisites: Completed/accepted application for program participation.  Knowledge of basic human anatomy and kinesiology, 20 hours of Pilates training using the Mat and Reformer, current CPR/AED and first aid or completed following Module 1. 

Module 1: The Fundamentals (20 hours) introduces students to the Pilates principles, fundamentals, posture screening and fitness movement assessment.  Foundational movements, introductory mat work, and introduction to motor control will be emphasized.

Module 2: The Mat work (20 hours) Students will learn the classical mat repertoire and learn flow, transitions, modifications, and the use of props.  Students will have the opportunity to learn effective verbal and tactile cueing to facilitate optimal movement patterns with their clientele.

Module 3: Beginner/Intermediate Level Reformer (20 hours) Students will learn the Pilates work on the Reformer as well as more advanced teaching concepts include identifying common errors and proper body alignment, and structuring a Pilates session for small groups and individual sessions.  

Phase I Proficiency Assessment: Teaching, Technique and Assessments (10 hours) Students will complete 5 postural/fitness movement assessments, present a case study including movement findings, goals and recommended programming.  Students will teach a 55-minute mat class and a 55-minute Reformer session. 

IB Pilates® Level I Certification is awarded to instructors who pass all Level I assessments and complete 200 logged hours.

Phase II (3 Modules)

Cadillac, Barrels, & Chairs

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Level I coursework, minimum of 100 logged hours in Phase I, 10 hours of self practice on the Cadillac/Chairs/Barrels,  current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications recommended. 

Module 1: Introductory/Intermediate Cadillac (20 hours) Students learn repertoire on the Cadillac and on towers.  They will learn to integrate findings from movement screens as well as movements from Phase I.  Students will refine verbal and tactile cueing, and recognize static and transitional body alignment. 

Module 2: Introductory/Intermediate Chair and Barrels, Teaching Technique and Assessments (20hours) Module 2 continues progressing through the Pilates apparatus and builds upon the skills and movements learned in Phase I.  Students will further refine their assessment skills and ability to provide modification to improve alignment, proper muscular recruitment and movement patterns using cueing and necessary props to optimize clients movement efficiency.

Module 3:

Hands on and interactive learning modules (onsite and remotely) will allow instructors to integrate the functional movement knowledge, client assessment and program design utilizing all of the apparatus (20 hours).  Comprehensive Assessments will be given once instructors have completed the required 200 hours of self mastery, observation and practice teaching for Phase II.  Comprehensive Certification is awarded to instructors who pass all Level II assessments and complete and log all practicum hours.
