Course Description

This course provides a review of functional anatomy & physiology, teaches postural and movement screening, postural types, and the fundamental principles of Joseph Pilates work. This course is a necessary component for developing the skills to appropriately assess and design movement programs for individual clients.

We will take an in-depth look at the movement science which is applicable not only to those desiring to teach Pilates, but to fitness and rehabilitation professionals.  Preparatory and basic mat repertoire will be introduced through brief lecture/video segments, practical application and movement and instruction feedback.  Labs will address verbal and tactile cueing techniques, postural/movement screening, and proctored teaching in pairs or small groups.

Upon completion, each participant will be able to complete a movement/posture assessment, teach Contrology Fundamentals and an introductory mat class to a relatively health population and address common musculoskeletal concerns by modifying movement sequences to safely and effectively challenge each client.
