Course Description:
This course provides thorough instruction of all introductory and intermediate repertoires and introduces the entire original Pilates sequence. Students learn the key focus, primary muscles, joint mechanics, energetic applications, common compensations, precautions/contraindications, modifications & cueing techniques and transitions for each exercise.
Students will learn how to design a specific mat sequence for individual work based on postural/movement screening in order to enhance client's progress in integrating Pilates into their lives. Students will also be prepared to begin teaching small group classes on the mat and using small props for accommodating clients specific strengths & limitations.
Course Requirements:
16 hours didactic/lab curriculum & pre/post-course assignments
Pre-requisites:
Contrology Fundamentals, 20 hours of Pilates mat movement experience
Practicum Hours:
5 hours of observation (5 may be approved video), 5 hours of independent study assignments, 25 hours of self movement practice, 20 hours of practice teaching (a minimum of 5 must be private or semi-private, and 5 group training)
Continuing Education:
ACE 1.5 credits, NSCA 1.6 hours, PMA * 12 (Fundamentals) 8 (Mat)hours (Students who are certified instructors through other organizations may take this course for annual credit hours through the Pilates Method Alliance).
